MAMELODI TAXI PROTEST RESULTS IN SERVICE DELAYS FOR A RE YENG COMMUTERS

Tshwane passengers using A Re Yeng buses to commute from Mamelodi to various other parts of Tshwane were inconvenienced by an ongoing taxi protest in Mamelodi to the east of Pretoria.

As a result of this taxi furore, the buses operating in Mamelodi had to be withdrawn from service until calm was restored in the area.

“This situation barred us from rendering reliant and effective public transportation through our bus system. The demonstration inconvenienced our loyal commuters, who bought their Connector cards for travelling and are solely dependent on A Re Yeng,” said the concerned MMC for Roads and Transport, Cllr Sheila Lynn Senkubuge.

As a result of this taxi furore, the buses operating in Mamelodi had to be withdrawn from service until calm was restored in the area.

The City had to hold back the bus operations in order to protect the drivers and commuters against possible threats of violence as well as to ensure the safeguarding of the buses.

“We wish to apologise profusely to some of our bus commuters who experienced delays in the morning. We have since managed to get the service up and running. Furthermore, in the interest of efficient public transport, we are engaging the taxi industry to assist in resolving their challenges without inhibiting bus operations,” added Cllr Senkubuge.

The operational members of both the SA Police Service and Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department are keeping Mamelodi routes under their watch.
